A lesson about enjoying every step of life takes and those who accompany us along the way.
They say we begin and end life’s journey alone. Nothing lasts forever, and all company or possessions are fleeting. However, there’s an ancient legend that claims otherwise. Do you know what it is? Here’s the story.

Before the Conquest, the Mexica believed that when a person died, their spirit must undertake a long journey to Mictlán—the city of the dead—to meet Mictlantecuhtli and receive eternal rest. And to get there, the deceased had to traverse nine levels filled with obstacles and challenges that tested the strength of their spirit.
On the first, they had to cross the Chiconahuapan River, a treacherous river that could only be crossed with the help of the xoloitzcuintle: the little horse considered a spiritual guide who carried the souls on his body to cross the river. But enlisting his support was not easy, as it was considered important that the deceased had been kind to them in life, or that they were buried next to their own xolo upon their departure.

And beyond the truth of the myth, this story reminds us that life, like the turbulent road to Mictlán, is a journey filled with challenges, lessons learned, and moments that are overcome with the right company. A different perspective on each journey, no matter how long or short, can be best enjoyed if we act with kindness, without expecting anything in return, although it often brings its rewards.

On ECOBICI, daily city trips are better when we respect the environment, take care of ourselves, and those we share the road with. When we’re traveling at the right speed, we yield to pedestrians or wear safety equipment; but above all, when we enjoy every mile, conscious of the air brushing our faces and our minds filled with peace.
Because we know the destination matters, but the journey is what makes it memorable; let’s make every ride an experience we’ll always want to return to. In the end, we’re also the company of others.
