ECOBICI's preventive maintenance
ECOBICI is the largest bicycle-sharing system in Latin America, with constant and intensive use. On average, 70 thousand trips are made per day, which means that each bicycle makes between 9 and 10 trips per day. This level of activity requires specific actions to prevent problems or wear that could compromise the operation, safety or useful life of the bicycle components. That’s what preventive maintenance is for. Learn what it consists of and how you can contribute to the care of bicycles.
Preventive maintenance involves tasks to inspect, adjust and correct equipment or systems before they fail. At ECOBICI this includes:
- Regular inspection: The main components of the bicycles (brakes, wheels, chain, lights, etc.) are checked to identify possible problems.
- Cleaning: An exclusive team keeps both the bicycles and the cycle stations free of dirt and trash that can affect performance.
- Lubrication: Lubricant is applied to the chain and other moving parts to prevent friction and premature wear.
- Component adjustment: This consists of verifying that the brakes, seat, tires and steering are correctly adjusted.
These actions are carried out periodically by the ECOBICI team, with the aim of extending the useful life of the bicycles, guaranteeing safety on each ride and improving the user experience. However, there are simple practices that all of us who use an ECOBICI can do to help keep the bicycles in good condition:
1. Anchor without slamming it. When you finish your ride, secure the ECOBICI in a cycle station without slamming it. No force is required, just patience. Make sure the front triangle is well centered and push the bike until it is properly anchored.
2. Avoid misuse. Use the ECOBICI responsibly. Avoid putting another person on any part of the bicycle, forcing its components or leaving trash on it. These practices directly affect its operation.
3. Report anomalies. If you detect a problem in its operation, report it from the cycle station using the repair button, in the app (you have 5 minutes after leaving the bike), or through our customer service channels. Remember to include the bike ID when making your report.
With these actions, users and ECOBICI team will be contributing to the good condition of the ECOBICI, as well as to the continuity of a sustainable mobility system for all. Thank you for being part of this community and taking care of what moves us!
