Roll to these delicious places in the heart of Mexico City
Tacos, tortas, flautas… If anything represents Mexico, it’s food. And it’s no coincidence: years of culture and tradition have earned Mexican cuisine recognition as a World Heritage Site. So, if you’re looking for a plan that will take you out of your routine and, in the process, leave you with a good taste in your mouth (literally), we’ve created this route through some of the most iconic places in the Historic Center to enjoy good food and a great time.
Shall we get started?
1. Café de Tacuba
If there’s a place that exudes history in Mexico City, it’s definitely Café de Tacuba. With over 110 years of tradition, this restaurant has seen the city grow and iconic figures—like Diego Rivera and Agustín Lara—offering more than 200 traditional dishes and desserts. Tamales, enchiladas, fish, chiles en nogada: there are options for all tastes and ages.
Also, if you’re already interested in those, we recommend checking out MUNAL, the museum located next to this iconic restaurant, perfect for continuing your weekend cultural plan.
📍 Calle Tacuba No. 28, Mexico City
🚲 CE 65 Marconi – Tacuba
2. Churrería El Moro
The sweetest spot on the route. Since 1935, El Moro has been the favorite spot for fans of good hot chocolate and freshly prepared churros. With a blue and white decor, in the pure Talavera style of Puebla, this place transports us to a space where the menu is all about that “something sweet” we always look for after a meal.
If you’re more of a dessert person, you’ll love El Moro. Here you can find everything from churros, milkshakes, and doughnuts to frappés, cakes, and “consuelitos” that we simply adore. Our recommendation? The Spanish chocolate and the cinnamon-sugar churros.
📍 Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas 42, Centro Histórico, CDMX
🚲 CE 96 López – Ayuntamiento
3. Balcón del Zócalo
With a direct view of the Zócalo and gourmet dishes, this place is the perfect place for an unforgettable experience in Mexico City. Whether it’s lunch or dinner, the combination of flavors and the panoramic views from the Balcón del Zócalo will leave you with memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
We recommend booking in advance, though, because demand is extremely high (especially during these times), and getting a table without an appointment is almost impossible.
📍 Av. 5 de Mayo 61, Zócalo Central Hotel, Mexico City
🚲 CE 88 Second Closed, 5 de Mayo – Palma
At ECOBICI, exploring history and celebrating gastronomy becomes an unforgettable experience, because Mexico City is best experienced on two wheels.
